Pregnancy Yoga

The health benefits of yoga in general are numerous, but with the hectic pace of modern life one of the biggest benefits is stress relief. The slow deep breathing techniques known a Pranayama and the flowing movements (Asanas) are a brilliant way to help your brain and body unwind and recalibrate. And this is even more important during pregnancy. 

The mothers body undergoes many changes during pregnancy and yoga can help expecting mums to prepare their body and mind for this amazing event.

 

Benefits of practising yoga during pregnancy and after the birth are endless.

Some of the benefits include;

 

  • Attending a pregnancy yoga class provides a safe space for the mother meet likeminded women, to rest, relax and reconnect 

  • Asana practice stretches out achy muscles and releases tension, especially in the lower back area

  • Strength is increased which helps the body carry the extra weight of the baby and possible weight gain.

  • Helps improve lymphatic drainage and circulation.

  • Improves sleep patterns

  • Prepares the mother for birth, increasing her strength, stamina, breathing, patience and acceptance 

  • Encourages the mother to connect emotionally and mentally with herself and her baby 

  • Specific asana practice can help to influence the baby’s position in the womb in the final weeks of pregnancy 

  • Can help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles which can help in labour and recovery 

  • Allows a quicker post -natal recovery.

Using a combination of asana, pranayama, mudra and relaxation, our pregnancy yoga class will help expectant mums feel strong, grounded, rejuvenated, and inspired.

It’s a complete practice to build strength and suppleness of the body and mind for both pre and post birth. 

Yoga can also help alleviate common ailments such as lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, sciatica and shortness of breath. 

We will also look at asanas to help the baby into the optimal position for birth and asanas to help with the birth itself. 

Most of our students have never tried yoga before but soon feel the benefits of a regular practice and often continue with a regular a yoga class after the birth.
